Retaining Your Light in the Darkness |

Lately I’ve been wrestling with the fact that evil seems to win in a lot of situations. But why? Why does darkness get to concur the light? Why are there people in this world who come in and bulldoze our lives, destroying everything in their path, yet end up walking away unaffected and unscathed? It’s not fair! Especially when we serve a just God...
“The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.”
-Psalm 103:6
Yet where is the justice in these destructive situations? Friend, I want you to know that it’s okay to ask these questions. It’s okay to question your faith in order to grow more deeply in it. It’s even okay to feel angry with God. He will not be upset or angry at you for expressing your true feelings. He can handle it. After all, He created us and the full range of emotions we experience.
So get angry. Yell, scream, punch a pillow—do whatever you have to do to get those emotions out in a healthy way. But the key is, we can’t get stuck there. We have to work through the feelings of betrayal, abandonment, and disappointment. We have to forgive those who hurt us, even though it can be really really really difficult.
To be honest friend, I don’t know why evil often prospers on this earth. Lately I’ve been grappling with this reality on a daily basis and it fills my heart with discouragement. What I do know, however, is that good always wins in the end. The light will overcome the darkness. We will be rewarded in Heaven for our faith and good works on earth; and true justice will be served where it is due.
Though we may have scars and battle wounds from these situations, it only makes us stronger in the end. So let’s build our resilience, endurance, and strength, keeping in mind the Truth that will set us free. After all, evil cannot win if we have the strength to get back up.
“I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.” -Ezekiel 34:16 NIV
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.” -Hebrews 6:10 NIV
“For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” -Ecclesiastes 12:14 NIV
